Library Programs at the Museum

Summer Enrichment Classes:
The Museum offers summer enrichment classes that are designed to educate, enlighten and entertain. All summer enrichment classes cost $10.00 per student. Registration must be at least one week in advance of the class. Checks should be made payable to the La Porte City FFA Historical and Ag Museum. Some class sizes are limited. To register for a class you may stop by the museum to pick up a form or call the Museum at 319-342-3619. 

Back to Nature: Birds and Butterflies
Thursday, 8 June
Instructor:
Designed for: Preschool age 4-5
Time: 11:00-12:30pm
Location: The Rural Iowa Heritage Center, 413 Chestnut Street
Description: Students will learn about the birds and butterflies around us and the important role they have. Students will play a game, decorate a birdhouse and make a butterfly craft to take home. Students should bring a sack lunch to enjoy picnic style by our butterfly garden.

Twist and Shout!
Thursday 29 June
Instructor: Katherine Ollendieck & Union Middle School Dance Team
Designed for: Age 5-8
Time: 10:00 -11:30am
Location: La Porte City FFA Historical and Ag Museum, 408 Main
Description: The Union Middle School Dance Team will give an overview and teach popular dances from the 1960’s. The fun lessons will include The Mashed Potato, The Swim, The Twist, The Watusi, and The Shake! These are simple and entertaining dances everyone can learn. This energizing experience is an educational dance party! A snack will be provided.

Imagine This!
Thursday 13 July
Instructors - Terri Klockner and Cherri Whittington
Designed for: Kindergarten – Third grade
Time: 10:00-11:30am
Location: La Porte City FFA Historical and Ag Museum, 408 Main
Description: Students will learn a few basic painting techniques and then will use their imaginations to create their own masterpieces to take home. Paints will be washable, but students should dress appropriately. A snack will be provided.

Macrame 101
Thursday 20 July
Instructors: Cynthia & Silver Cord Students
Macramé bracelet
Designed for: 5-8th grade
Time: 10:00-11:30am
Location: La Porte City FFA Historical and Ag Museum, 408 Main
Description: Students will take a trip back to the 1960’s and learn the art of macramé. Each student will learn how to make a macramé bracelet. All materials will be provided. A snack will be provided.

Tie-Dyed Family Fun
Tuesday 1 August
Instructors: Museum staff and the Bruce Boosters 4-H Club
Designed for: Preschool-5th grade students
Time: 6:00pm
Location: Participants will begin at the Hawkins Memorial Library and then go to The Rural Iowa Heritage Center, 413 Chestnut
Description: This is our annual family fun event. Take a step back into the sixties and join the era of tie-dye. Students (and adults) should each bring a pre-washed white cotton tee shirt to tie-dye. THIS CLASS IS FREE.

Family Fun Day
Take time each month to celebrate family and join us some good old fashion fun!
The fourth Sunday of each month from 2-5pm
Admission is $3.00 per person
